A Senior Dog’s Prayer - Beulah - June 20, 2012

Beulah a lot grey but oh so cute

Beulah a lot grey but oh so cute spread out

Wow, I came across this poem and had to post it.  I know Beulah is getting (she's already there) older, and I would never think of letting anything happen to her because she was old.  Coco died at home with Don and I petting him and talking to him.  He was so peaceful until he took his last breath, I screamed, he opened his eyes, and just went to sleep.  I wish I hadn't done that, but it was a reflex action.  He will be missed forever.  With Schmutz we had to have her put to sleep as she was chocking as her tongue had swelled from her heart problems.  We went to the vets and held her while they gave her the medication to put her to sleep.  Again, she was held, loved, and went peacefully.  I will do no less for Beulah whenever her time is.

Beulah is such a nice little girl.  She is kind and loves everyone.  She may look old (one of the neighbors when he sees her always says how's the Old Timer doing.  That's okay.  She is getting older, just like me.  She's gained weight and turned grey.  Hey.. So have I.  I am glad I have someone to grow old with.  All she needs to do is look at me with those beautiful eyes and a tilt of her head and I'm a goner.  Yes, in case you haven't guessed it, she owns me.  ha ha.

Here is the poem that just tore me up, and I could not stop crying.  Bless all the old timers who give us all they have and then some.

A Senior Dog’s Prayer

One by one, they pass my cage,
Too old, too worn, too broken, no way.
Way past his time, he can’t run and play.
They shake their heads slowly and go on their way.

A little old man, arthritic and sore,
It seems I am not wanted anymore
I once had a home, I once had a bed,
A place that was warm, and where I was fed.

Now my muzzle is grey, and my eyes slowly fail.
Who wants a dog so old and so frail?
My family decided I didn’t belong,
I got in their way, my attitude was wrong.

Whatever excuse they made in their head,
Can’t justify how they left me for dead.
Now I sit in this cage, where day after day,
Those younger dogs get adopted away.

When I had almost come to the end of my rope,
You saw my face, and I finally had hope.
You saw thru the grey, and the legs bent with age,
And felt I still had life beyond the cage

You took me home, gave me food and a bed.
And shared your own pillow with my poor tired head.
We snuggle and play, and you talk to me low,
You love me so dearly, you want me to know.

I may have lived most of my life with another,
But you outshine them with a love so much stronger.
And I promise to return all the love I can give,
To You, my dear person, as long as I live.

I may be with you for a week or for years,
We will share many smiles, you will no doubt shed tears.
And when the time comes that God deems I must leave,
I know you will cry and your heart, it will grieve.

And when I arrive at the Bridge, all brand new,
My thoughts and my heart will still be with you.
And I will brag to all who will hear,
Of the angel who made my last days so dear.

My day, my blog,My baby girl ~ May 16, 2012

This is a picture of Beulah in my Jeep back in 2009.  She is older by 3 years,  (obviously),  and has so much gray and a whole lot chubbier.
Oh fun, oh joy...  ha ha..  What a day.  My legs were so bad this morning I had to cancel my doctor's appointment because they just were killing me and I had a hard time getting out of bed.  I bet it took me a good 20 minutes of trying, but the pain just would not let me stand on them.  I called and cancelled and rescheduled.  I need to remember to put the new appointment on the calendar.  I am so bad about that.  They will call the day before to remind me and I'm thinking, really....I have an appointment tomorrow.  I go to so many doctor's I am thinking of making a chart of the clothes I wear there.  I don't want them to think I wear the same ones all the time, although I do. ha ha.  Beulah was good this morning.  Usually she is barking or howling to go out as soon as she see's my eyes open.  Honest to pete, she has the best radar I have ever known.  She can be in the other room.  I open my eyes and I hear her romping to the bedroom, if she isn't already in there.  It's the darndest thing.
I then took her out, came in, made and drank my coffee, and had a healthy breakfast of leftover macaroni salad.  ha ha.  It was so good.  I made it yesterday, and my neighbor/friend next door loves it.  I called and told her I made it and she came over.  Before she got in the house my neighbor across the street saw here and so I invited her over too.  She loved it too.  It was no big deal and no recipe.
Macaroni - cook it
Mayonnaise and vinegar - mix together as much as you like
Celery
Tuna
Onions
Kalamata Olives
Green Olives
hard boiled eggs
And voila, macaroni salad... Between the 3 of us we ate just about the entire pound of macaroni.
Back to today...I called and could finally get Beulah into the groomer to have her nails clipped.  Now this is not easy feat.  She is almost 50 pounds and can't jump anymore.  I have to lift her into my Jeep.  Take my bad legs, my bad back, and her dead weight it is not a pretty picture.  ha ha.  Thank goodness the groomer took her out of the car and carried her in and then back out to my car. Bless you Kelly..And she's a tiny thing.  Kelly, not Beulah.  Beulah is now limping again.  She has the bad leg, and I think when Kelly was clipping the nails, she may have manipulated her leg and aggravated it.  My poor baby.  I won the battle..... What battle you may ask.  Her pain pill battle.  She will take her arthritis medication if I crush it and mix it in with some Frosted Flakes and milk.  (Is she spoiled???  Judge for yourself). ha ha.  But any other medicine she will not take.  She see's a peanut butter jar and turns her head and hides.  Burying it in food I have a 10 percent chance she will take it.  She usually eats the meat, cheese, etc, and spits out the pills.  Like and idiot I am sitting her making tiny slits in tiny elbow macaroni to shove the pill in, all the while trying to put another one on top to completely hide it, and then wrap yet 2 more to cover.  I then have more of the macaroni salad very very close so that  as soon as she takes the ones with the pill, I can try to shove the "good stuff" at her.  It did work.  Yeah for me.  Hopefully she will feel better soon. She is such a good little girl and I hate to see her in any kind of discomfort. Needless to say, I'm exhausted from it.  ha ha.  Between her and I we don't make a whole person/dog.
I am about to make myself some Ramen noodle soup.  Don't care for the soup, but love the noodles.  ha ha...
So that's it so far today
Until next time

Surprise Pictures ~ April 24, 2012

                                                                    Miss Beulah

                                                     Cheyanna and Cooler

                                                                   Jared and Cooler

Woke up to the sweetest little girl talking softly to me.  When I didn't move fast enough it became a louder howl.  I'm talking about my baby girl Beulah who just happens to be a beagle...

Then, I take her for her walk, my legs are buckling and I just pray they will keep me up.  I really don't feel like sitting in the middle of the road. ha ha.  Made it home and put up my coffee, gave Beulah her treats, and sat down to the computer to check my e-mail and facebook.  When I went to my e-mail, I got the best surprise.  There staring me right in the face was 4 pictures of my grandchildren.  What a wonderful morning this has been.  Beulah, Jared, and Cheyanna's big brown eyes looking right at me..  That is heaven on earth. I have the best grandbabies.  All 3 of them. I know every grandparent says that, but mine are so special and I love them like crazy.  Miss them so much.  Of course their mom and dad aren't to shabby either. ha ha.  I am so lucky and blessed to have the family I do.  Okay, before I cry lets move on..  ha ha

I have been reading like crazy.  As I have said before I found a new author and really like her style of writing.  She grabs me within the first few pages.  Robyn Carr.  I am currently reading her Virgin River series.  I started out with a few, then realized it was a series, so I am reading them in order now.  Read the first 3, put the 4th on reserve at the library, and am currently reading (as of today) Lisa Scottoline's new book "Come Home".  I love to sit outside and read.  Today will be a great day to sit out.  It is really cool. 52 degrees at 9:00 AM.  I love this cooler weather.  I know it won't last.  Perfect for a cup of coffee and a book.  It's also trash day.. Just remembered that, so I need to get it down there.  Just thought I would share that.  ha ha.  Things pop in my head and out my mouth, or in this case into words on a paper, or computer. ha ha.

It is now hot out again.  I had on my jeans and the sun is beating down so hard I had to come back in.  Oh well, time for Beulah's supper.

Until next time....................

Bill Paying Day - March 2, 2012

Bill paying day.  Horror, I mean Hooray....  ha ha..  I never know whether to pay over the phone, on the internet, send a check, the possibilities are endless............ha ha.  We never had these choices before, so why now.  All we had many moons ago was the option of using a checkbook.  Now, Lucy, you know..I love Lucy..That's my check background.  One scene is the grape stomping and another is the candy with Ethel, and there are a few more. Oh, I forgot what I was talking about.  ha ha...Choices.  Ah yeah..

I am horrified by the tornadoes that are wrecking havoc all over the US.  Living through and taking direct hits from 3 hurricanes in 2004 teaches you not to take Mother Nature for granite.  I know what I went through and that was only 10 days without power the first one, 7 days without power the 2nd one, and 3 days for the last one.  No water, no food, no gas, millions of mosquitoes though.  And these poor people are losing their homes to such devastation.  My heart and prayers go out to all the families.

Gave Beulah a new flea pill earlier and she is going bonkers from it.  I feel so bad for her, and don't know what to do to calm her down.  She just can not get comfortable.  It must feel horrible, or maybe it itches, or burns.  I wish she could tell me things like that.  I can read her pretty well, but not this time.  And oh the stories she could tell if she spoke.  ha ha...

I have started a new book The House I Loved by Tatiana de Rosnay.  I loved her other 2 books - Sarah's Key and A Secret Kept, but this one for some reason I am having a hard time getting into.  I may read a while or crochet.  Working on another scarf.  This one is is turquoise and is falling like bells.  It is so pretty.  Then next, I am going to tackle an afghan for myself, and still work on smaller projects in between.  I wish there were more hours and more time when I wasn't tired to work on my crafts and read.  I say this as I look at my sink of dishes from supper tonight.  Sigh........

So, I will get off here and do something.  What I don't know.. ha ha.  Until next time

March 1, 2012 ~ Back to the blog

Okay.  Vicky is questioning why I have not written on my blog, so I thought I'd better get my butt in gear and do a little something something.  ha ha

It's been a while since I have written on here.  Tsk. Tsk.  Shame on me. Thanks for the push friend.

I have been having a strange week for sure.  I went and got my steroid shot last Wednesday, and am still having side affects from it.  Not allergic reactions, just all the side effects you can get.  But I have got to admit, that after going to pain management for 2 years now, this is the 1st time that the shots in the back have worked for this amount of time.  I know it has only been 4 days, but I have not been able to get out of bed without excruciating pain for almost 6 months and almost 2 years since I have been able to just stand longer than 5-10 minutes.  So this is WONDERFUL.....  I go back in a week again for more shots, and I hope he gets the right area again.  I am in hog heaven.  Still have pain, but it's not consuming my every movement and that people is what life is about.. At least to me..  ha ha

Went to crocheting today and it took me about half an hour to move my K hook from my left hand to my right.  Just wanted to throw in the "K" so you'd think I was a real crocheter.  ha ha.  Then it took another half hour to move it from my right hand to the chain.  ha ha.  Let's just say I did not get anything done today.  Had a lot of laughs and I really do love the hookers.....It is a great bunch of gals and guys, and it's funny how I felt so comfortable from day one.  Then again, it must be my bubbly personality, oh wait, that might be the champagne bubbles I forgot to drink.  ha ha.

The weather here is crazy.  Rained all day Sunday for the Daytona 500 race which they had to cancel.  We have not had rain like that in forever.  Now they are saying by the weekend it will be in the 90's.  I have enough hot flashes that they are only going to add to my power surges.. ha ha..
The joys of aging.....ha ha.

Beulah is here doing the happy dance.  Think she wants to go out.  I don't.  To many mosquitoes.  Why in the world couldn't they have missed the ark...  ha ha..

So ends a very quick thought process of mind to paper, or thoughts to fingertips to keys that the letters are worn off of.

Until next time......

The Litigators - February 4, 2012

Just finished reading The Litigators by John Grishom.  I was #247 on the wait list at the library for this, and I was really excited about it coming in.  As I recall, I had only read one of his books, The Firm, and that was many many many moons ago.  This is the story of two attorneys who are basically ambulance chasers.  Another attorney loses it, and leaves his expensive law firm.  He goes to a bar, gets drunk, and winds up on the doorstep of Figg and Finley.  They take in David Zinc and are still ambulance chasers.  One attorney decides to go after a major drug company, with no knowledge, and figure they can sail on the coat tails of major tort litigators.  Not so fast, they decide to make a federal case out of one of Figg and Finley's cases.  I don't want to say to much more in case anyone reads it.  It had a lot of humor interjected throughout the book, and really held my interest.

Finally got to take Beulah to Petco to have her nails clipped.  I know she feels so much better.  I know I do too.  ha ha..

New recipe for Frozen Yogurt

Buy a container of Yoplait or whatever kind of yogurt you like
Stick it in freezer
When frozen, eat it.

It really was good. I had the peach mango and yummy.....

Until next time

I guess I forgot to post a picture of the scarf that I made the other day,  Just finished crocheting another scarf.  This one came out so pretty.  The other one did too, but I like the colors of this one too.  It is a variegated one just like the blue one was. I need to thank my neighbor and friend Michelle for modeling it for me.

I am also selling them for $8.00.  If they need to be shipped the postage will be extra, but only the amount, nothing over.  I am not out to make a killing, just want to be able to buy a little more of the essentials that I need.  Disability doesn't take you far.  So, any extra money I can make, won't really be extra, but it sure will help, and I love making them.  I am also selling the scrunchies for $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00. Again, shipping would be extra.

When did I become a napkin???  I could not believe that Beulah took a drink and proceeded to come over to me.  She put her head down on my lap, and proceeded to wipe her mouth.  Both sides.  I had to laugh.  She looked up at me like, see, I did it myself.  ha ha..

I am trying to do to much at once.  I can't wait for The Biggest Loser to come on tonight.  Only problem is I don't have anything to snack on.  I know, it's an oxymoron to watch a show about weight loss and me sitting here with a bag of chips.  But, no snacks in the house, so it's just plain old water for me.  I am also still reading The Litigator.  It was real good in the beginning and now it's getting to be more of the lawyering stuff.  ha ha

Well, I have bored you enough.  Until next time

BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE - Jan. 4, 2012

Okay, saying Baby It's Cold Outside is an understatement. It dipped into the 20's last night and it's only 34 out there now. Brrrr. It is even colder inside than outside. With no heat, it is taking this tiny space heater soooo long to heat up. It's been on for over an hour and it's still just as cold. Miss Beulah is still in her coat from her walk. To cold to take it off, even though she doesn't like it. She looks so comfortable. Of course, she is now in her coat and covered up with a blanket.

I was so toasty last night under that electric blanket. To bad there isn't an extension cord that would reach outside while we went for our short short walk.
After living in Florida for almost 33 years, I think my blood is thinning out, and this is the first time the cold is getting to me. I love cold.... This is bitter cold.

It got me thinking about different things people say.

It's bitter cold. - As opposed to what? Sweet cold?

My hand's are frozen - So what? they are stuck in one position?

It's cold as hell out there. A bit of an oxymoron wouldn't you say?

Well, I am no weather forecaster but I can predict that tonight it will be ...DARK.. ha ha...

So this has been my little rant about the cold weather. There are lots of It's so cold out things out there I thought I would add some of them.

It's so cold outside, I'm using an ice tray as a heating pad

It's so cold out that when you milk the cow, you get ice cream instead

It's so cold that I had to pull all the food out of the freezer, so I could get in there to warm up.

Well, you get the idea. Make today a good day. Stay warm. I will leave you with what just might be true today, "There is ice running through her veins".

I have taken so many pictures of my baby girl, Miss Beulah Mae, that I will have to share them from time to time. So here is one of her adorable self.
January 8, 2011

Well, here I am trying to do this again. I am bound and determined to at least give it another shot. It may last an hour, a day, a week, or a lifetime. Who knows. What I do know if that I am at least trying, and this is my stepping stone.

I have had a rough few years, no doubt about that, but that is not an excuse to let it continue. This year started out with me sick, and I still am, but you know what...That doesn't matter. I am making it a good year. At least that is what my thinking is today anyway.. ha ha..

I didn't feel like cooking so I decided to make something simple. Didn't have any bread, and so I knew I had a can of Bush's baked beans, and some Hebrew National Hot Dogs, so beanie weanies to the the rescue. It really hit the spot...

MY SUPER SIMPLE BEANIE WIENIES

Hot Dogs
Can of Baked Beans
Mustard
Brown Sugar

Heat hot dogs in the microwave for a minute or so. Make sure you score them so they don't get big and fat.
Heat up the baked beans in a seperate bowl. Add as much brown sugar and mustard as you like. I used about 2 tablespoons of mustard and the same of the brown sugar.

Mix them all together and your on your way to sitting down to eat.
